my summer of writing
Okay, ready for some TRUTH?
I’m a little tired of writing this summer.
But I’m NOT GOING TO STOP.
I’m in the midst of a final (I hope!) round of revisions for my new novel.
I just want this book to be done.
But I’m still going. I’m still writing about 30 minutes a day. I have a list of changes I need to make (it’s not quite a full third draft, but I’m resurrecting a character who was dead in the previous two drafts, so it’s taking some effort to write this person into the book). I’m also changing the beginning of my characters’ love story.
Here’s how I’m fueling myself (and what’s keeping me sustained):
🩱hitting the pool with my kids, at least once a week (sometimes two or three times). Basically, I check the weather on Sunday and I pencil in a pool afternoon (when I’m done working and after I pick them up from summer camp), and sometimes a longer pool visit on the weekend.
🍽️feeding myself a LOT. I’ve struggled with fatigue for the past 10+ years, and I’m working with a functional nutritionist who has absolutely CHANGED MY LIFE. I no longer have to lie down for an hour every single afternoon. I feel better and have more energy than I’ve had in over a decade. WINNING.
📚so. much. summer. reading! I’m sharing some of my favorites on Instagram so make sure you’re following me there. My fave books of the summer so far have been The Favorites by Layne Fargo and It’s a Love Story by Annabel Monaghan.
🔥Friday night fires in our fire pit, and s’mores with friends.
🌺I threw myself a luau-themed birthday party (it was my 40th!) and it was such a delight to be surrounded in-person by so many of my favorite people.
🚢My husband and I are packing as you read this to take our kids on a cruise. We’re celebrating fifteen years of marriage with a fun family vacation. I CAN’T WAIT.
In the meantime, I’m working like crazy and getting my book slowly but surely DONE.
THIS is what I mean by a summer of writing.
Fun + writing. Slow + steady.
